Sobre este artículo

Amsterdam: Officina Dommeriana, 1752. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket as Issued. FIRST EDITION, 1752 VOLUME II ONLY. Written in Latin and Greek text. Also contains a shorter work titled, "Duae Epistolae S. Clementis Romani, Discipuli Petri Apostoli, Quas Ex Codice Manuscripto Novi Testamenti Syriaci Nunc Primum Erutas, Cum Versione Latina Apposita, Editet Jo. Jacobus Wetstenius." This short work begins on the last page and reads from right to left. It is 37 pages long, and is in Latin and possibly Syriac (parallel columns). Half light brown leather binding with leather brown boards. Five raised bands. All edges uncut. Illustrated title page. 920pp. Covers and spine have places of rubbing (gilt has been almost completely removed from lettering on spine). Crack beginning to form along middle of spine (not cracked yet), and front joint has some cracking as well. Head of spine and upper back joint are chipped. Little to no browning or foxing on pages, which are quite bright and clean for the year in which they were printed. Text is neatly underlined heavily throughout, and other pages have some marginal notes. A beautifully preserved edition of an important work in New Testament scholarship.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: "Johann Jakob Wettstein (also Wetstein; 5 March 1693 – 23 March 1754) was a Protestant Swiss theologian, best known as a New Testament critic. [In his 2-volume work, Novum Testamentum Graecum,] he did not venture to put new readings in the body of his page, but consigned them to a place between the Textus Receptus and the full list of various readings. Beneath the latter he gave a commentary, consisting principally of a mass of valuable illustrations and parallels drawn from classical and rabbinical literature, which has formed a storehouse for all later commentators. In his Prolegomena he gave an admirable methodical account of the manuscripts, the versions and the readings of the fathers, as well as the troubled story of the difficulties with which he had had to contend in the prosecution of the work of his life. He was the first to designate uncial manuscripts by Roman capitals, and cursive manuscripts by Arabic figures."
