A rare, self-published photobook. American rancher Raymond Bell first moved to the state of Durango in 1902 to start a cattle farm, which proved vastly successful over the course of the 20th century. This 1936 book documents the working life of his ranch in Durango, and its place in the landscape. Bell, who gave up his American citizenship and became a Mexican national in 1949, was highly regarded for his ethical treatment of workers on the ranch and later, for his philanthropy. Upon his death in 1967, his estate formed a foundation devoted to the medical care of impoverished children. Fundacion Raymond Bell, I.A.P., continues to provide important family care services to the citizens of Durango to this day.
