The front face of the constructed envelope contains a cut-out photo of Carrie Jacobs-Bond, her dated signature, and three postal cancellations with stamps depicting Susan B. Anthony, Steven Collins and John Phillip Sousa. The significance of the cancellations, as written in red on the envelope flap, is that they spell out the composer's name, i.e., Carrie, Ky (March 25, 1940 – Easter Sunday), Jacobs, Ky (July 4, 1940 – Independence Day), and Bond, KY (August 11, 1940 – her birthday).
