Sobre este artículo
New York: the author, 1836. Letter. 8.5x10.5 inch sheet bearing eight lines hurriedly penned by Lenox to Mr. Hogan, two fold creases, one of the creases with a short split at the edge. Penciled notes at top and bottom edges by an autograph dealer. Lenox puts Hogan off fairly bluntly, noting that "Owing to my recent return to the city I find many matters demanding immediate attention, and I have therefore been obliged to decline seeing anyone. For the same reason I must make my reply to your communication very brief. I have within a few days made arrangements which will require all the funds I shall have under my control for some time to come; and it will not be in my power to lend the amount for which you apply. I am, Sir, your obedient J. Lenox." In 1839 Lenox inherited millions of dollars, empowering him to embark on the monumental collection that became the Lenox Library, later the New York Public Library.
