Hard Cash by Charles Reade (originally published as Very Hard Cash in (1863), in which he highlighted the abuses of private lunatic asylums. A new edition. Preface to front by the author is dated 1868. Charles Reade (1814 - 1884) was an English novelist and dramatist, best known for The Cloister and the Hearth. With advertisements to rear. In a cloth binding. Externally, generally smart but with slight wear to extremities and occasional slight marks to boards. Rear hinge stained. Internally, firmly bound although strained in places. Bright but with occasional scattered foxing and handling marks. Slight closed tear to preface. Good

Where are We?
Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
