Sobre este artículo

New York: Random House, 1991. Hardcover. very good. 1st edition. 1310 [1]pp. Thick octavo. Navy cloth one-quarter binding with silver lettering on spine and mild bumping to the bottom of the spine. Black paper covered boards with the author's name in silver on the front. Very tiny scratch to the front board near the bottom right corner. Clean, bright and tight text block throughout. Small tear to rear attached endpaper at top. In glossy dust jacket, not price clipped in fine condition. Signed and inscribed on front free endpaper. Also included, placed loosely inside, is a typed note from Random House Inc/Norman Mailer that reads "Since you are going to be selling my book, I would like you to read it. Since I would like it even more if you read with pleasure, I inscribe this copy to you.". Fine condition A first edition in great condition, with inscription, signature and an interesting note which make it even more desirable. Although this novel was unfavorably received by most critics (e.g., Louis Menand, John Simon), a distinguished minority (e.g., Christopher Hitchens, Anthony Burgess, Wilfrid Sheed, Robert Anton Wilson, Salman Rushdie, Michael Silverblatt and John W. Aldridge), considered it among Mailer's finest fictions, if not, as in the case of Hitchens, his masterwork. Heavy book - extra shipping cost may apply. 1991

Sinopsis

With unprecedented scope and consummate skill, Norman Mailer unfolds a rich and riveting epic of an American spy. Harry Hubbard is the son and godson of CIA legends. His journey to learn the secrets of his society—and his own past—takes him through the Bay of Pigs, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the “momentous catastrophe” of the Kennedy assassination. All the while, Hubbard is haunted by women who were loved by both his godfather and President Kennedy. Featuring a tapestry of unforgettable characters both real and imagined, Harlot’s Ghost is a panoramic achievement in the tradition of Tolstoy, Melville, and Balzac, a triumph of Mailer’s literary prowess.
