Sobre este artículo
A Cologne: Chez Pierre Marteau, 1687. [48], 299pp, [1]. Nineteenth-century vellum, ruled in manuscript, contrasting black morocco lettering-piece., all edges red. A trifle rubbed. Marbled endpapers, bookplate to FEP, later manuscript note in a French hand to verso of front blank fly-leaf. The second edition, printed in the year after the first, of Huguenot physician and iatrochemist Jacques Massard's (fl. 1686-1693) serial work of apocalyptic interpretation. The book combines various sources of knowledge to demonstrate the eschatological significance of the contemporary international political situation, especially as it related to the plight of the Huguenots. Massard held that the correct interpretation of disasters, dreams, and prodigies would reveal Godâs plan; for him, all prophetic knowledge pointed to a providential certainty - the eventual defeat of the Papal anti-Christ and triumphant resurrection of Christ. In composing the work, Massard relied on the works of Michel Nostradamus, medieval Catholic visionaries, Central European prophets, and accounts of dreams he had personally collected. . 12mo.

Antiquates Ltd
Antiquates Ltd was established by Tom Lintern-Mole in 2007; we travel far and wide to buy, sell, and advise on rare books and manuscripts.
Concentrating on hand-press printing and early modern manuscripts, we pride ourselves on offering a varied selection of antiquarian works on a diverse range of subjects, leaning towards the interesting, the important, and the unusual.
We have a countryside bookshop in Wareham; we also regularly issue catalogues - do ask if you would like to be added to our mailing list - and frequently exhibit at regional and national book fairs in London, Bristol, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Oxford, and York.
We also offer a valuation service (for either insurance or probate purposes), as well as advice on library development.
