Sobre este artículo

New York: Harper & Brothers Publishers, 1910. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. A strong Very Good, with Richard Sugden library label. See scans and description. New York: Harper & Brothers Publishers, 1910. Tall octavo - in fact, near quarto at 9 11/16" - buff cloth boards with black spine imprinting, buff endpapers, very thoroughly illustrated throughout with both color and black and white plates, and photographs; 976 pp. (iv + 972 ). A very strong Very Good, clean but for some cover soiling (scan); thin crack at front hinge, nonetheless sturdily bound; contents immaculate. Richard Sugden Library label at front pastedown, but no other library marking of any kind. Rather astonishing in its illustration and topical articles; many color plates - with a passel by Howard Pyle - and many black and white plates, as well. If you have a hardbound six-monthly from this era of Harper's you know what the "many" in "many illustrations" means. The photographs - such as those in "The Making of a Telescope" (the Mount Wilson Observatory) - are of magnificent quality for publications of that era. Every last illustration and photograph in these 972 pages is eminently frame-worthy - but don't ever do that. See scans of contents pages for the articles herein. Artists include Howard Pyle, Thornton Oakley, F. Walter Taylor, Elizabeth Shippen Green, H.G. Williamson, James Montgomery Flagg, Harry Townsend, Howard E. Smith - and one hack of a lot more. Scarce, and a treasure. Ships in a new, sturdy, protective box, of course; not a bag. L7n
