Original, complete disbound issue that shows slight wear at the spine, light wear to edges and light fading, o/w fine. Front-page, anti-Tilden illustration by Thomas Nast showing a rascally looking man in 3-piece striped suit with "Tammany Police" emblazoned on his belt buckle, a stick in raised hand and two small boys being held by the cuff of their shirts in the other. Caption: "Tweed-le-dee and Tilden-dum. Reform Tweed. '"If all the people want is to have somebody arrested, I'll have you plunderers convicted. You will be allowed to escape; nobody will be hurt; and then Tilden will go to the White House, and I to Albany as Governor.'" Another full-page collage of cartoons called "Donkeys at the Centennial" by Bellew mocking the art critics. Also, four illustrations of the Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia: one of Denmark and Egypt in the main building (artist unknown); a full-page illustration of Agricultural Hall drawn by G. Perkins from a sketch by W.H. Gibson; the Tobacco exhibit in Agricultural Hall from a sketch by W.H. Gibson; and Food Fishes of the Sea exhibited in the U.S. Building. Also, Chps. 1 and 2 of "Carita" by Mrs. Oliphant.
