Lever began this project a few years after gaining a position as a country doctor and marrying his first wife. Apparently he wrote late at night, with little thought of organization. Lorrequer is said to be a string of Irish stories, good, bad, and indifferent. The success of his writing surprised him. He followed this with several more which we have listed separately, all in matching covers. Volume I of a 2-volume set has 280 pp..
