The first English translation of Uffenheimer's classic work, originally published in Hebrew in 1968. In this examination of Hasidic thought, the author focuses on the contemplative aspects of Hasidism, rather than petitionary prayer. This edition of the work includes a revised introduction and two new chapters by the authors, as well as an appendix, containing a translation, history and analysis of one of the few extant text attributed to the Ba'al Shem Tov (the founder of Hasidic Judaism).
