Smith, Elder & Co, London., 1889. Second edition of a book originally published in 1884. Octavo. pp xxiv, 389. Folding frontispiece colour map with tissue guard. Green cloth decorated in gilt and black. In the 1860's and 1870's the author had been British chargé d'affaires and then Minister in Haiti. This book caused something of a scandal on first publication with its stories of cannibalism and Voodoo.Some spotting to edges and prelims. A couple of pages roughly opened at fore-edges. Very good indeed. A bright copy.
