A fine copy, scarce in this condition. Neate O20. A classic Canadian Rockies title. The author was formerly a clergyman who was knighted in 1912 and spent most of his time in Canada after 1900. Outram made first ascents of Assiniboine, Columbia, Forbes and other peaks. Scarce in the true first edition and complete with the folding map. This copy bears the signature of W.S Ladd on the front endpaper. William Sargent Ladd was a physician that developed a passion for the mountains at an early age. He first visited the Canadian Rockies in 1905 and returned regularly for over 20 years. He developed a great relationship with the pioneering guide Conrad Kain and regularly climbed with him. This book may have been one of the first Canadian titles he acquired for his collection! Ladd is also famous for providing the American Alpine Club with their first club house in New York. Overall a special copy of the book. 1905
