The author, a freelance writer, wrote several books that attempted to introduce the reader to the 'real' nature of a range of different countries. In this one he tackles Malaysia in its early years just after independence. His book has been fairly popular since it was first published as he makes a strong case that the country belongs "to all who have staked their claim in her" since most of its inhabitants other than the truly indigenous peoples of the peninsula and Borneo are comparatively recent immigrants. The Penang Bookshelf was set up in mid 2010 principally to introduce Malaysian residents to the variety of books there is available about the country both past and present. We only stock fiction and non-fiction related to Malaysia and the rest of Asia. Much of our current stock of over a thousand different titles is not available in Malaysia. Conversely much of our stock published in Malaysia is difficult to find outside the country. So if there\'s something Malaysia related that you\'re looking for, do please contact us and we\'ll do our best to help.
