Hard cover, 8 vo., in publisher's original green cloth with pictorial decoration in gilt and white, top edge gilt, others untrimmed, 350 pp. Includes 24 black and white photographic plates, and an index. An " in-gathering of sketches, addresses, and local historical studies" of this Essex County, Massachusetts community. Author Nathan Mortimer Hawkes (1843-1919) was a descendant of an early Massachusetts Bay plantation settler, Adam Hawkes, of whom he provided a genealogical study in 1888. An antiquarian, he would pen articles and books on a number of topics of local interest: biographies, witchcraft, the farms of Essex, and various other addresses given to institutions such as the Essex Institute. Condition: Very Good. Slight rubbing at corners, and head and foot of spine, browning to endpapers. Contents pleasingly bright and clean. A nice, well cared for copy.. Limited Edition . Hard Cover. Very Good.
