Gyldendalske, Kobenhavn., 1890. First edition. Octavo. pp [iv], 236. Original elaborately decorated red cloth stamped in black and gilt. All edges gilt. Patterned endpapers. Danish text - Ibsen wrote in Danish which was the literary language of both Denmark and Norway at the time. The book was issued in four different colours of cloth with no known priority.Neat ownership signature on first blank. Spine a bit faded and with a darkened patch at foot. Head and tail of spine slightly scuffed. Very good indeed.
Sinopsis
*The action takes place in a villa in Kristiania (now Oslo). Hedda Gabler, daughter of an aristocratic General, has just returned from her honeymoon with Jørgen Tesman, an aspiring young academic, reliable but not brilliant, who has combined research with their honeymoon.
