Text is illustrated with black-and-white photographs, maps, and tables. Illustrated front cover, showing picture of Quarantine Station gates and sailing ships with yellow background and black and yellow writing on the front panel. Book is rubbed and sun faded, and there are grubby marks to the back panel. Corners of the book a slightly creased and scuffed and there is discolouration to the title page.
