This Book by noted Author and Historian, Bernard Fall, is an account of the Battle of Dien Bien Phu whereby a combined force of French Paratroopers and Legionaires were defeated by a force of communist Vietnamese soldiers. Dr. Bernard Fall, completed his doctoral studies with travel and reserarch to French Indochina in 1953 and 1954. Dr. Fall has written several Books on Vietnam in the 1950's and 1960's, while he was a Professor of International Relations at Harvard University. Dr. Fall returned to Vietnam in late 1966 on a Guggenheim Scholarship and was killed in February, 1967, while on patrol with the U.S. Marines, one month after this Book was published. There are several sections of photographs as well as maps throughout the Book.
