His work on James won him both a National Book Award and a Pulitzer Prize. VERY GOOD/GOOD PLUS CONDITION: tight, clean, with light and uniform age-tanning. Henry James, OM (1843 - 1916) was an American-turned-British author regarded as a key transitional figure between literary realism and literary modernism, and is considered by many to be among the greatest novelists in the English language. He is best known for a number of novels dealing with the social and marital interplay between emigre Americans, English people, and continental Europeans. THE IVORY TOWER (1917) is an unfinished novel by James, posthumously published in 1917. The novel is a brooding story of Gilded Age America in which enormous wealth and betrayal of trust are major themes. James was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1911, 1912 and 1916.
