Catalogue for 1934 exhibition of prize-winning British horses and farm animals as sculpted by Haseltine. With tipped-in photographs of 22 pieces presented to the Field Museum in Chicago by Mrs. Marshall Field. Herbert Chevalier Haseltine (1877-1962) was an Italian-born French/American animalier sculptor, most known as an Equestrian sculptor. Hesltine was born in Rome, the son of the American landscape painter William Stanley Haseltine (1835-1900) who was associated with the Hudson River School and Luminism. He studied at Harvard University and, after graduating in 1899, Haseltine attended Munich Academy in Germany to study drawing and then to the Académie Julian in Paris, France where he studied painting. During the time he lived in Paris at the Impasse Raffet (XVIeme Quartier) near the Rue Jasmin, he led a very colourful life. Attached to American Embassy, Paris, 1914-1915, Decorated Chevalier Legion of Honor in 1922, he entertained a lot of guests in his beautiful house, which was once depicted in the French Magazine "Maison & Jardin". Amongst his guests were Arthur Rubinstein, Cary Grant, Teddy Roosevelt Jr and Charles Lindbergh. He also had a lot of contacts to highest Russian Royalty. His wife, the former Madeleine Keith, was born in England and died in 1979 in Paris. . ; Art and Art History, Most Recent Listing, Most Recent Listing .

At The Antiquarian Book Shop, located in Georgetown - an historic neighborhood of Washington, D.C. we have been buying, selling & appraising rare, interesting and scholarly books in Georgetown for more than 30 years. Over those many years we have taken great pleasure from satisfying our customers' eclectic literary requirements in the shop and hope to continue in that tradition now that we have moved our operation on-line.Currently, our catalogued inventory includes about 4,000 books from the sixteenth century through the twentieth century in a variety of subject areas. Our stock comprises antiquarian books, collectible books and scholarly books, as well as a selection of antique prints and ephemera.The books listed here represent only a small portion of our total inventory. We are in the process of cataloguing the extensive holdings in our warehouse (15,000+ books) and hope to flesh out these pages over the months to come. Our new format allows us to expand & update our listings frequently. We have included images of many items listed to better convey their quality and condition.
