Herman Boerhaave was a 17th-century Dutch doctor known for being one of the most important Dutch physicians. He focused his studies in treating and curing lesions which, along with many other topics, are found in his book "Institutes of Medicine". He also wrote numerous medical aphorisms – commentaries on surgery and disease curing. These works described the rise and growth of medical processes, particularly in the treatment of tuberculosis and melancholy.
