Nice tight copy, no names inside. ; 256 pages; In the Loire valley the Monerie family are trying to rebuild their estate, and their lives, from the ravages of World War II. Jean Monnerie the head of the family was wounded in the war, Daniel has just returned from five years in prison for being too friendly with the Germans, and cousin Marie who cannot forgive the betrayal and death of her son, Robert who was tortured to death by the Gestapo for being a member of the resistance. The visit of an Englishman who had been supposed to meet Robert in Orleans the day he was captured brings things to a head. For unbeknownst to him he holds the secret of the identity of Robert's betrayer. .
