Sobre este artículo

London: Gollancz, 1975. First UK Edition 1st Printing. Original Cloth. Very Good/Near Fine. 20x13 Cms (8" x 5"). PUBLISHING DETAILS: First UK edition, first printing of this Hugo Award winner from Philip K Dick, published by Gollancz of London in 1975. 222 pages. Size: 20 x 13 cms (8" x 5.5"). Weight: 375g (0.8 pounds). CONDITION: I would rate the book as very good for its age and the dustjacket as near fine. The book's original blue cloth covers, with gilt titling to the spine, are clean and sound save for a small dark mark and crease to the front (see photo). The binding is tight and secure. The text is generally clean and bright though with light marks to quite a few pages. There are library stamps to the title and copyright pages only and a neat new front endpaper & pastedown. There is a neat repair to the top corner of the half title page. The unclipped dustjacket is bright, clean and entire, with just tiny chips to the top and tail of the spine and is now protected in a clear, removable Brodart sleeve. Overall, a very presentable first UK edition of this seminal science fiction novel. THE NOVEL: From the sleeve notes: 'The Man in the High Castle was written in 1962 and considered by many to be Philip K Dick's best book. It represents a world in which World War II is not won by the Allies but by the Axis powers, and North America has been divided by them into three strips running north to south. The Eastern part is occupied by the Nazis and the Western seaboard by the Japanese. The middle section, the Rocky Mountain States, is a neutral buffer state. In this middle section lives a novelist who has written a book in which it is maintained that Germany and Japan were defeated in the war; and although it is suppressed, its message begins to seep through to the defeated Americans. The Man in the High Castle is a brilliant novel and well merits the praise which has been bestowed upon it. Inevitably, it won the much-coveted Hugo Award.' Beginning in 2015, the book was adapted as a multi-season TV series, with Dick's daughter, Isa Dick Hackett, serving as one of the show's producers.

Reseñas

El Mar 2 2015, un lector dijo:
Alternate history doesn't get any better than in this Philip K. Dick novel. Set in the then-contemporary world of 1962, it chronicles the lives of its characters in an America that had lost World War II and was divided into Japanese and German zones of occupation. Dick uses this setting to explore many of his standard themes about the nature of reality, but this is done within the framework of an enjoyable story that is never less than entertaining.
