Little, Brown & Co., 1938. Stated first edition. Mustard cloth, red titles and topstain, pictorial endsheets. One-color illustrations by Robert Lawson (Rabbit Hill, Ferdinand). Haines was the nephew of Owen Wister, author of The Virginian. He published a couple of other novels and (mostly) wrote screenplays. This novel concerns a group of linemen stringing current for the coming railroad and the dangers involved therein. Book very good with giver inscription to rear pastedown, aging to endsheets and foreedge. DJ very good with edgewear, loss of one inch at top of spine, soil. Very few copies around. 299 pp.. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good.
