First edition thus, Volume I: pp. xxix, (iii), 401; Volume II: pp. x, 388 plus pp. 3 of ads. Illustrated with frontispieces & a total of 73 black & white plates. Volume I with two folding maps: (a) Sketch Map of Old Japan and (b) Map of Feudal Japan. Armorial bookplates on front pastedowns, and small gold owner tickets on rear pastedowns. Previous owner signature in pencil on free front endpapers of both volumes. Date and city (Boston) written in a calligraphic hand on rear pastedown of Volume I. Offsetting from an old clipping on front pastedown & free front endpaper of Volume II. Top edges gilt. A solid, very good set in the publisher's decorated pictorial green cloth.
