Sobre este artículo

New York: F -R. Publishing Corporation,, 1946. First edition, offprint issue, of Hersey's famous account of the experiences of six Hiroshima atomic bomb survivors, "the first significant account in English of the devastation of Hiroshima; it remains an enormously influential book, the account that introduces Hiroshima to most Western readers" (Minear, p. 7). John Hersey (1914-1993) was one of the first proponents of New Journalism, a blend of factual reporting with a novelistic prose style. He served as a war correspondent for Time and Life during the Second World War and became interested in the atomic bombings while covering the reconstruction of Japan. The initial publication of Hiroshima is the only time that the New Yorker has devoted an entire issue to a single story. It remains one of the 20th-century's most significant pieces of journalism. The article first appeared in the New Yorker in August 1946. It appeared in two further forms that year: this offprint in wrappers and the trade edition in cloth published by Knopf. The offprint was set from the standing type of the magazine and issued as part of a New Yorker advertising campaign. Octavo. Original printed wrappers, wire-stitched as issued. Light foxing to wrappers, spine torn at stitching but holding firm: a near-fine copy.

Sinopsis

Hiroshima by John Hersey tells the account of six survivors covering the time before, during and after the U.S. bombing of Japan in World War II. Hersey chronicles the horrors of the event in simple, graphic detail in what was originally published as a 31,000 word article in New Yorker magazine in 1946. Just a few months later, Alfred A. Knopf printed it in book form.
