MAJ Eatherly was the pilot of Straight Flush, a B-29 that made a simulated bomb run on Hiroshima on 6 AUG 45 and radioed an "all clear" to Enola Gay which dropped the first atomic bomb. Since 1950, he has been under psychiatric care and blamed himself for the deaths of 100,000 Japanese and is to have sought punishment by committing as bizarre series of crimes to atone for his part in the A-bomb. This book presents all the facts of his story and delves into the heart and mind of a man who has been a pilot in the service of his country, a holdup man, a mental patient, and a symbol of mass guilt. A clean presentable copy in a Brodart mylar jacket.
