Sobre este artículo

New York: George H. Doran,, 1917. In a remarkable and unrestored example of the jacket First US edition, first printing, uncommon in the striking dust jacket. Published in the same month as the first British edition, this volume is an anthology of eight Sherlock Holmes stories originally published in The Strand Magazine and Collier's between 1893 and 1917. The preface, by "John H. Watson, M.D.", reveals that Holmes has long retired from his profession of detective, but is alive and well, living in a small farm five miles from Eastbourne. However, "the approach of the war with Germany caused him to lay his remarkable combination of intellectual and practical activity at the disposal of the Government" (p. v). The stories comprise: The Adventure of Wisteria Lodge (1908), The Adventure of the Cardboard Box (1893), The Adventure of the Red Circle (1911), The Adventure of the Bruce-Partington Plans (1908), The Adventure of the Dying Detective (1913), The Disappearance of Lady Frances Carfax (1911), The Adventure of the Devil's Foot (1910), and His Last Bow (1917). Octavo. Original red cloth, spine and front cover lettered in black. Housed in a custom blue cloth solander box with Holmes profiles in black to front panel. Small bookplate to solander box. Spine faded, extremities lightly rubbed with a couple of spots of wear, upper edge dust toned and lightly foxed, contents a little shaken, but generally clean. A very good copy in like rubbed jacket, creasing to extremities, a few small chips and short tears, spine and rear panels foxed, couple of faint damp stains, front panel still bright. Green & Gibson, A40c.
