Paris: Jean Guignard, 1699. Second Edition (originally published in 1643 in quarto under title ‘Histoire de la vie de Henry, dernier duc de Mont-Morency’). Henri II [1595-1632] won a series of battles against the Protestants and was present at the sieges of Montauban and Montpellier. In 1625 he defeated the French Protestant fleet under the Duc de Soubise, seizing the islands of Ré and Oleron, and in 1628-29 he defeated the Huguenot leader, Henri, Duc de Rohan, in Languedoc. His success in the war against the Spaniards in Piedmont, Italy, in 1630 led to his appointment as maréchal of France.
