Worming and some loss to the lower corner of the fly leaf and first 16 leaves, the final two leaves of the Life of Guicciardini misbound in the middle of the previous gathering, bookplate of Thomas de Grey, Baron Grantham, with a small associated manuscript library label to the foot of the paste down. Late 18th century speckled calf, blind rules to covers, "Newby Hall" in gilt to the upper cover, red morocco spine label, rebacked retaining the original backstrip. An early edition of Guicciardini's account of Italian history in the late 15th and early 16th centuries. De Grey inherited Newby Hall, near Ripon in North Yorkshire, from his cousin in 1792, adapting the dining room designed by Robert Adam to be his library. Later Earl de Grey, he was Lord Lieutenant of Ireland from 1841-44.
