An Historic Guide to Cambridge, compiled by members of the Hannah Winthrop chapter National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution de Pilgrimage Committee [25 or so persons] of the Hannah Winthrop Chapter [D.A.R.] - 1907

Cambridge MA: [the D.A.R. chapter], 1907. Hardcover. A much-used, hand-augmented copy: unpaginated preliminaries, 207p., illustrated with numerous b&w site photos, period images and a couple of plat maps. Names are underlined in pencil & red-pencil, p.36 quite intensely (marks corresponding to "Map A"). Map A at p.34 was removed, trimmed, marked with red dots, then replaced; its annotating underlines are joined with pencillings: ten or more pencilled names & dates, mostly legible - the former owner may well have been amongst the Pilgrimage Committee, still working on content. Book is hardbound in grey cloth boards titled black, spine panel darkened with handling, front endsheets stained from some long-gone insert and marked in red pencil (endsheet printed as a double-spread plat). In short, a messy copy that would be less useful without the mess.
