Early days in Clinton County, Ohio, and its various communities -- Wilmington, New Vienna, Sabina, Martinsville, Blanchester and Clarksville -- are recalled through a mixture of colorful tales and factual data in this NEW 18 Page Booklet reprinted from the 1892 Centennial edition of Henry Howe's Historical Collections of Ohio and other sources. The spiral-bound booklet, is printed one-sided on 60# paper with the print enlarged for easier reading. Among the many and diverse topics in the booklet are: a sketch of George Clinton, vice president under Thomas Jefferson, the escapades of notable early characters William Smally and Col. Thomas Hinkson, the Women's Temperance Crusade, the romantic history of Jeremiah Reynolds, the unusual poetry of Morley Amberg, and the life of Gen. James Denver. GENEALOGY BUFFS will find a list of 1888 county officers and businesses. A 1933 look at the history of newspapers in the county, an article on Mother Thompson, daughter of Gov. Allen Trumble and leader of the temperance crusade, excerpts from The Ohio Guide (a 1940 WPA writers' project), a map showing the 88 Ohio counties, and a map of 1805 Ohio are also included.
