Early days in Darke County, OH, and its various communities -- Greenville, Gettysburg, Arcanum, Versailles, Ansonia -- are recalled through a mixture of colorful tales and factual data in this NEW 19 Page Booklet reprinted from the 1892 Centennial edition of Henry Howe's Historical Collections of Ohio, The Ohio Guide and other sources. The spiral-bound booklet is printed one-sided on 60# paper, with the print enlarged for easier reading. Among the many and diverse topics covered in the booklet are: Fort Greenville, Gen. William Darke, defeat of St. Clair, exploits of Mad Anthony Wayne, Indian peace treaties, Enoch Seitz a math wiz, the demand for marriageable girls, a wedding at the point of a "dog," the 40th Ohio Infantry and medicine in pioneer days. GENEALOGY BUFFS will find a list of 1888 county officers and businesses. A 1933 look at the history of newspapers in the county, excerpts from a WPA writer's project that studied the state's points of interest in 1940, brief pieces on the Ft.
