The early history of Defiance County, OH, and the communities of Defiance and Hicksville, are recalled through a mixture of colorful tales and factual data in this this NEW 17 Page Booklet reproduced directly from the 1892 Centennial edition of Henry Howe's Historical Collections of Ohio and other sources. The spiral-bound booklet is printed one-sided on 60# paper with the print enlarged for easier reading. Among the many and diverse topics in the booklet are: the Revolt at Fort Defiance, the Shawnees and the Senecas, the captivity of several white youths, a monstrous apple tree, the War of 1812, and a biography of Alfred Edgerton of Hicksbille. GENEALOGY BUFFS will find a list of 1888 county officers and businesses. A 1933 look at the history of newspapers in the county, an article on the Ohio Indian tribes, an article from 1941 on Defiance College, excerpts from The Ohio Guide (a 1940 writer's project of the WPA), a map showing the 88 Ohio counties and a map of 1805 Ohio are also included. .
