Glue binding, wrappers brittle and toned; large pieces missing from right corners of front wrapper, lower left corner and bottom edge of back wrapper; sections of spine glue missing; interior contains previous owner name in pencil and a few pen marks, else clean pages; fair condition.
First edition, expanded second issue of An Historical Sketch of Los Angeles County, California (a shorter version had been published earlier the same year). The appendix contains accounts of the Fourth of July planning and celebration in Los Angeles, organized by a group of citizens who wanted to ensure the proper celebration of the American Centennial. This expanded second issue was published concurrently with the holiday celebrations, as per the wishes of the committees recorded in the appendix.
