A fasinating and comprehensive early 19th century work on the history and antiquities of the Deanery of Craven in York, replete with many engraved and folding plates. Containing topographical, genealogical, natural, and historical descriptions of the area. Written by Thomas Dunham Whitaker, an eighteenth and nineteenth century English clergyman and topographer. The second edition of this work. Replete with an engraved frontispiece, a further fifty-two engraved plates (one of which is partially coloured), and eighteen folding genealogical plates. Collated and complete.Bound in full contemporary calf. Bound in full contemporary calf. Externally, significant rubbing to the head and tail of the spine, joints, and extremities. General shelf wear to the boards. Small amount of loss to the binding at the tail of the front board. Internally, hinges are just a touch tender, remaining binding is firm. A large closed tear to the plate opposite page 265. Scattered spotting to the pages and plates, and offsetting to the pages opposite the plates. Good
