Previous owner's inscription (signature and date: 1927) and blindstamp front free endpaper. All 16 plates (including frontis) are present but appear to have been excised and professionally re-attached. Loosely inserted (annotated) page from 'The World before the Deluge' (by L. Figuier & H.W. Bristow). Previous owner's plentiful underlinings and annotations some in colour pencil, including on the plates. Contents and boards clean and in very good condition. Good copy of scarce title. A study proposing the existence and history of Atlantis by the folklorist and occult scholar Lewis Spence. Spence describes the book as "a general outline of what is known concerning Atlantean civilisation [...] upon a scientific basis". It includes chapters on Atlantean historical souces such as Plato, and the geography, religion, and culture of Atlantis. 1st Edition. Cloth Boards.
