This large volume covers the history of maps and map-making beginning with the ancient world and covering cartography in many eras and lands as well as on the many aspects of the history of cartography. The text is illustrated with over 200 b&w and color maps. There are notes in the rear as well as an extensive list of cartographers to 1750 as well as list of significant bibliographies in the rear. Original publisher's tan cloth covers with gilt spine and cover lettering. This is a clean, tight and unmarked book with no interior or exterior markings, no previous owner names and no bookplates. The dust jacket has a short tear to the top edge as well as some rubbine, else is still quite presentable. This is a large, heavy volume that weighs 4 pounds 7 ounces. ; Color & B&W Illustrations; Large 8vo 9" - 10" tall; 312 pages .
