Illustrated with a folding map frontispiece.An informative history of the Scottish city, being a greatly 'new and enlarged edition' of the 1847 work of the same name by James Thomson. This additional information has been provided by James MacLaren.With the first part being a general history of the town, and the second part being a 'description of the town' and its 'public works, buildings and institutions'.With the armorial bookplate of Sir Charles Umpherston Aitchison to the front pastedown. Aitchison was a Scottish colonial administrator who was Lieutenant Governor of the Punjab, and served as Chief Commissioner of the British Crown Colony of Burma from 1878 to 1880.With the inscription of D S Colman to the verso of the front free endpaper. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to spine head and tail, with discolouration to back strip, and boards bright. Rubbing to joints, with small hole in cloth at centre of front joint. Hinges strained and tenderly held. Inscription to verso of front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Light spotting to title page, with pages otherwise generally clean and bright. Good

Where are We?
Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
