Vol 2 - 21 B/W plates (1 torn without loss), 21 handcoloured plates, 662pp, (last page missing), 250 x 155mm. Volume 1 has 12 pages missing, one coloured plate torn with loss and two B/W plates torn with loss. Volume 2 has one page missing and one torn B/W plate without loss. Plates are foxed. Restoration has given a good working copy. A full zoological description of animals, birds, fishes, reptiles, insects and zoophytes with upwards of 2,000 illustrations.
Sinopsis
A History of the Earth, and Animated Nature is a fascinating work of natural history. It was first published in 1774 in eight volumes, these volumes brought together a history of the earth with a description of its geographical features and species. Oliver Goldsmith was a novelist, poet and journalist as well as the author of many works of natural history. He is now best known for his 1766 novel, The Vicar of Wakefield .
