New York: I.H. for Ed. Brewster, 1825. Hardcover. Good. Hardy, Thomas. 8.75" x 10.5" "Oliver Goldsmith, was a novelist, poet and journalist as well as the author of many works of natural history. He is now best known for his 1766 novel, The Vicar of Wakefield." This volume is referenced in George Eliot's famous novel The Mill on The Floss. 880 pages with additional 56 page index. Covers are scuffed and volume is edgeworn. First free front endpaper is torn near head of spine and has two signatures and a previous owner stamp. The next 12 pages suffer from the same tear and are loose from the binding. Ink signature on title page. These pages are dampstained. The remainder of the binding is sound. A few pencil markings throughout. Pages 27-56 of the index are also dampstained. Foxing throughout. See photos.
Sinopsis
A History of the Earth, and Animated Nature is a fascinating work of natural history. It was first published in 1774 in eight volumes, these volumes brought together a history of the earth with a description of its geographical features and species. Oliver Goldsmith was a novelist, poet and journalist as well as the author of many works of natural history. He is now best known for his 1766 novel, The Vicar of Wakefield .
