From Aretino's Sonnetti lussurioso (1527) and Michel Millot's L'Ecole des Filles to John Cleland's classic Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure (Fanny Hill) which has remained in print since I 748/9, the book examines how some of the most famous erotic books of all time were first published, how they were received by their readers, and how they have endured to the present day.
