Tissued frontispiece in each. Black and white illustrations. Fold-out color map in volume 1. Index in volume 5. Last volume published by Sampson Low, Marston, Searle, & Rivington. Bindings tight. Hinges NOT cracked. Leather and paper coverings worn at corners, edges, and spine ends, with boards exposed at tips on some volumes. Fore edges of boards have a few nicks. Covers lightly soiled and rubbed. Small gilt imprinted green leather bookplate on front endpaper of each volume. Pages lightly and uniformly tanned but still supple. Small pencil notation on verso of front free endpaper of vol. 1. Scratch on spine title panel on vol. 3. Pages clean and unmarked. 617 + 632 + 626 + 626 + 593 pages. Translated by Robert Black. Half title: "The History of France Related for the Rising Generation." Gilbert and Rivington, Printers, St. John's Square, London. No dust jackets. Carefully packed, shipped in a box.
