Seligmann begins with examinations of ancient cultures in Mesopotamia, Persia, The Hebrews, Egypt, Greece, and the Roma Empire and gnosticism. There is a full section on alchemy as well a son the Middle A ges, the Devil, Witchcraft, diabolic rites, notable persons such as The Magus, Paracelcus, Nostradamus, Trithemius and others; cabala, magical arts, reformers and the 18th century.
