Bound in publisher's burgundy cloth, gilt lettering to spine and front board; top edge stained gilt. Plain white endpapers. Xviii pp prelim material, 605 numbered pp, plus one blank; in addition: five unpaginated pp maps, 10 unpaginated pp plates. Editor's intro, lists of illus/maps; 15 chaps (from "After the War" [1865] to "A Chronicle of Recent Events" [through 1925]; appendix (with 19 entries), index. Notes and maps passim. Condition notes: A fine, unmarked copy of the 1926 edition (dated to both title page and copyright page) with the following flaws: lacks dj, likely issued without; moderate wear to boards, spine ends rolled, corners bumped, sunning to spine; interior tanned but clean/unmarked. Binding solid. An inch of the tail fore-corner of textblock stained; pp 571-580 show small tears - see photo. Also included as a bonus are two small ephemeral items that accompanied the original distribution: A "Notice" from MHS Superintendent Solon J. Buck instructing "if your friend or neighbor would like a copy of this book..." to fill out the "accompanying application blank", and (a slightly tattered copy of) the blank itself, dated 1927.
