Stevenson's earliest literary creation, recited at the age of six to his mother, who wrote it down, as part of a contest between him, his brothers and cousins, to write the best history of Moses. The frontispiece (The Israelites going out of Egypt) is from a watercolor by Stevenson done at the same time. Includes a facsimile of Mrs. Stevenson's manuscript, facsimile inscription signed by his uncle from the reward book he received for winning, and facsimile of RLS's early signature. Printed blue paper covers, pamphlet stitched with blue cord. Presented in a folded brown envelope, to which an A. Edward Newton bookplate and a Charles Dexter Allen bookplate are affixed. Thin duodecimo. 5 x 7.5 in.10 pp. A wonderful copy of Stevenson's earliest know composition.
