First edition, two volumes, 4to. 115 plates - a portrait of Lord Grenville, 64 hand coloured aquatints and 17 hand coloured engravings of the various gowns plus the 33 Founders plates, all in excellent condition. Frontispiece and one further plate plus the text in volume I, with the bulk of the plates and the plate list bound in volume II. Handsomely bound in 20th century brown crushed half morocco, t.e.g., faint rubbing to the spines otherwise a handsome set. A well preserved collection of perhaps the most beautiful illustrations printed of the city; Ackermann utilising some of the finest artists of the day - men such as Pugin, Westall and Nash - to make the drawings. Abbey, Scenery, 278-80. Tooley 5. Of the points noted by the above two bibliographies, four plates are in the earlier state. The plate list is in its second state, including the Founders' plates.
