Sobre este artículo

London: W. Baynes and Son, 1825 . Leather. Very Good. 6" by 4". Not Stated. The first five volumes of this scarce six volume edition of Gilbert Burnet's important history of the English reformation and founding of the Church of England. Gilbert Burnet's 'The History of the Reformation of the Church of England' provides a comprehensive account of the events and ideas that led to the establishment of the Church of England as a separate entity from the Roman Catholic Church. The work was first published in three volumes between 1679 and 1715 and is widely regarded as one of the most important and influential works on the English Reformation.Burnet, a Scottish bishop and theologian, was an eyewitness to many of the events he describes in the book, including the reigns of Henry VIII, Edward VI, Mary I, and Elizabeth I. He draws on a wide range of sources, including official records, personal diaries, and letters, as well as his own observations and insights. With an engraved portrait plate and engraved title page to volumes I, III and V, and an engraved title page to volumes II and IV.Present here are five volumes of a six volume set: Volumes I and II cover volume I, parts I and II; volumes III and IV cover volume II, parts I and II, and volume V is part I of volume III, a supplement to the earlier parts. Lacking volume VI, the second part of the supplement (volume III, part II).With the bookplate of Captain Alfred Charles Woodhouse to the front pastedown of each volume. In straight grain morocco bindings, with gilt detailing. Light rubbing to back strips, most concentrated to spine heads and tails. Otherwise, externally excellent. Front hinge of volume II lightly strained but firmly held. Bookplate to front pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally clean and bright, with only the odd spot. Very Good
