The first five volumes of this scarce six volume edition of Gilbert Burnet's important history of the English reformation and founding of the Church of England. Gilbert Burnet's 'The History of the Reformation of the Church of England' provides a comprehensive account of the events and ideas that led to the establishment of the Church of England as a separate entity from the Roman Catholic Church. The work was first published in three volumes between 1679 and 1715 and is widely regarded as one of the most important and influential works on the English Reformation.Burnet, a Scottish bishop and theologian, was an eyewitness to many of the events he describes in the book, including the reigns of Henry VIII, Edward VI, Mary I, and Elizabeth I. Front hinge of volume II lightly strained but firmly held. Bookplate to front pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally clean and bright, with only the odd spot. Very Good
