A five volume set of Spanish history covering the reigns of two influence monarchs, Philip the Second and Philip the Third. This five volume set is comprised of two set of works, those being : 'The History of The Reign of Philip The Second, King of Spain' (3 volumes) the sixth edition written by Robert Watson and 'The History of the Reign of Philip The Third, King of Spain' (2 volumes) third edition greatly enlarged written by Robert Watson and William Thomson. Written by Robert Watson, the noted historian and politician of the 18th century. Each of the volumes feature the previous owners bookplate to the front pastedown of each that reads 'Wm. De Tessier, Woodcote Park'. WoodcotePark is a stately home in the English county of Surrey previous owned by Baron de Teissier. This bookplate features his crest. This work of Spanish history document reign of both Phillip the Second and Philip the Third, of the 16th and 17th centuries. In a uniform cloth binding, with calf spine labels. Externally worn with bumping to the head and tail of the spine and also to the extremities. Heavy fading to each of the spine, with light creasing and additional fading to the extremities of the front and rear boards. Several small tears to the cloth the extremities, with light patches of rubbing to each of the spine labels. Age toning to the fore edge. Previous owners bookplates to the front pastedown of each volume, with the cloth covering the boards, adhered to the front pastedown, lifting in places. Each volume of 'Philip II' set are lacking the front endpaper, with volume I also lacking the rear endpaper. 'Phillip III' vol I is lacking the rear endpaper. Internally heavy strained to page 2 of 'Philip III' volume II, held by cords, otherwise generally firmly bound with pages loosening in places. Pages are heavily age toned throughout with heavy spotting. Fair
