Sobre este artículo

Chicago Illinois: Western Historical Publishing Co., 1883. Early days in Menominee County, MI, are recalled in this new 35-page booklet titled: Menominee County, Michigan, USA The spiral-bound booklet includes excerpts from two hard to find sources: the 1883 History of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Michigan, a Guide to the Wolverine State, a 1941 product of the WPA Writer's Program. The tri-color cover is printed on 80# card stock and protected with a vinyl sheet. The text is printed on 8.5" x 11" 60# opaque paper. The 1883 history of Menominee County included the history of Dickinson County, since Dickinson was part of Menominee County until 1891. We have also included those portions of the WPA book that pertain to Dickinson. Among the subjects included are: Stories of early settlers, including Joe Bart, a negro/Indian fur trader and Chappieu, agent for the American Fur Company, William Farnsworth and Charles Brush, rivals of Chappieu; the early Green Bay settlement; John G. Kittson and his descendants; Marinette, daughter of a Menominee chief, and her descendants; Andrew Eveland; John Quimby and the Kirby House; Indian Sketches; Eleazer S. Ingalls' recollections of early days in the county and its organization; Early officials; Anson Bangs; transportation improvements; Schools; Mills; the Great Woods Fire; Iron mines; the village of Menominee (including a drawing of the town) --Old settlers, Newspapers, Churches, Benevolent Societies, Banks and Businesses, Railroads and Steamboats, Farms-- Quinnesec, Hermansville, Iron Mountain and Norway; and other interesting bits of history and trivia. In addition to the many names mentioned throughout the booklet, there are a number of biographies. These often shed light on area businesses, churches, professions and institutions, and on the events of the day. The names include: M.H. Kilgallen, Robert Barclay, James W. Beardsley, Charles F. Carr, Henry G. Fisk, Angelo A. Flint, Thomas S. Fort, A. Husson, William E. McClintock, Donald E. McDonell, Patrick McKenna, Hugh McLaughlin, James H. Malloy, Benjamin Marchand, Elisha Morcom, Joseph Parry, Joseph Schaller, Amos S. Shephard, A.F. Wright, Charles L. Anderson, Richard Browning, William Dickie, John Dunseth, James H. Gee, Thomas Hay, Dr. Frank M Hess, Robert Johnson, Dr. Levi J. Kimball, James B. Knight, A. Levy, James Nicholson, Ambrose Phelps, David Rosenheimer, John D. Sampson, Miss Eliza Scott, William S. Andrew, William Bice, William P. Bray, Charles A. Broughton, Vivian Chellew, Oliver Evans, John Frederick, A.A. Hammond, Edward J. Ingram, H. Kamrath, W.S. Laing, J.C. Manning, Arthur D. Moore, Edward O'Keefe, Charles E. Parent, Ruel O. Philbrook, Charles Rogers, J. Rundle, Thomas Rundle, Thomas B. Rundle, Carter J. Sawyer, George F. Seibert, Richard L. Selden, Dr. William J. Spencer, Jerry Sullivan and Thomas H. Williams. This booklet includes 6 pages of excerpts from the WPA book. Although perhaps out of date as a tour book, these WPA guides are rich in history and trivia, such as the "cranky" nature of birch canoes and the Smelt Carnival on the Menominee River. . Limited Edition Reprint. Spiral/Comb . New/No Jacket. 8.5" x 11". Private Press.
